A seventh grader’s incredible act of bravery saved 66 kids from a terrifying situation when their school bus driver collapsed mid-route.
Dillon Reeves, a 13-year-old from Warren, Michigan, didn’t hesitate when he noticed the driver slumping over while navigating the busy streets near Carter Middle School. In a split second, he took control of the situation—and the bus.
According to Warren Consolidated Schools Superintendent Robert Livernois, the driver “became lightheaded and lost consciousness” as the bus was traveling along Masonic Boulevard. Dillon immediately sprang into action, rushing to the front of the bus as chaos unfolded behind him.
Surveillance footage later revealed the full extent of Dillon’s quick thinking. The video shows him darting to the wheel, where he skillfully maneuvered the bus to a safe stop. But he didn’t stop there—he urged his classmates to call 911, ensuring help was on the way.
The City of Warren couldn’t be prouder. Councilman Jonathan Lafferty took to Facebook to sing Dillon’s praises:
“This young man jumped into action when his school bus driver experienced a medical emergency, bringing the bus to a stop and avoiding what could have been a very tragic accident. We are so proud of you, Dillon!”

During a press conference, Livernois celebrated Dillon’s courage, emphasizing how extraordinary his actions were:
“He saw the driver had passed out, stood up, and took control. This was an extraordinary act of courage.”
Dillon’s parents, overwhelmed with pride, couldn’t hold back their emotions. His father, Steve, shared:
“This is overwhelming for all of us. He’s always been attentive, but this is on another level.”
Dillon’s mom, Ireta, added a heartfelt note:
“He’s come such a long way this year. To see him do something like this—it fills my heart. He told me, ‘I just watched the driver do it every day.’”
She later posted a touching message on Facebook, crediting divine intervention:
“Jesus had everything to do with Dillon’s bravery and swift action. To him, it’s just another day, but the world sees him as a hero.”
Dillon’s heroic efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. The Warren Police Department plans to honor him with a special award for his bravery.
