Carolyn and Andrew Clark from Michigan recently welcomed their daughter, Audrey, and she’s making waves as the first girl born on Andrew’s side of the family in 138 years. Born on St. Patrick’s Day, Audrey’s arrival wasn’t just a joyous moment for her parents—it shattered a family tradition that began in 1885. While it might sound like something out of a family legend, the Clarks have records to back it up.
“When Andrew first told me, I didn’t believe it,” Carolyn admitted. “I thought, statistically, it’s a 50/50 chance every time, right? But his parents confirmed it. No girls on his direct family line for over a century!”
Andrew added, “There were cousins and uncles with daughters, but no daughters directly in my lineage. It felt surreal to think Audrey was the first.”
This history-making moment was even sweeter after the couple’s journey to parenthood hit a heartbreaking bump. After experiencing a miscarriage in January 2021, Carolyn and Andrew approached their next pregnancy with cautious optimism.
“When we found out we were pregnant again, we didn’t care if it was a boy or a girl,” Carolyn said. “We were just thankful to be expecting a healthy baby. Finding out it was a girl? That was the cherry on top.”
The couple kept the baby’s gender a secret from everyone—including themselves—until their gender reveal party. The big moment involved cookies with colored filling, and Andrew was bracing himself for more blue.
“I fully expected another boy,” Andrew confessed. “When I bit into the cookie and saw pink, I just stared. I couldn’t believe it. It was a beautiful surprise!”
Audrey is now nearly three weeks old, and the Clarks couldn’t be happier. “We’re so thrilled she’s here,” Carolyn shared. “She’s healthy, and the delivery went smoothly. We couldn’t ask for more.”
