Birthdays are special for everyone, and they’re the perfect time to show love and appreciation. A simple wish can make anyone’s day. But did you know animals celebrate birthdays too? They sure do!
At the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in England, the staff makes sure to celebrate the birthdays of their animals. Recently, it was a special day for a gray seal named Yulelogs, who turned 31. And what better way to celebrate than with a giant fish cake?
Yulelogs has had an incredible life filled with unexpected twists. He was rescued back in 1989 when he was just a tiny seal. For a while, he was cared for at a marine park in northern England. But when the park closed, the staff had to release him into the wild.
However, Yulelogs wasn’t quite ready for life on his own. He had grown too used to humans, and when he was released, he didn’t know how to find food. He’d swim up to people along the coast, hoping for a meal. This caught the attention of the public, and soon, the local animal welfare group had to step in and capture him.
At his second shelter, Yulelogs had lost a lot of weight—he only weighed 132 pounds, far less than the 550 pounds a healthy seal should weigh. Eventually, he found his forever home at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.
Today, at 31 years old, Yulelogs is living a happy and healthy life. Seals in the wild rarely live past 25, so his birthday is even more special. And thanks to the sanctuary, he’s got a great birthday gift: a giant fish cake!
