Exciting news from Brazil! Divers Juca Yagarape and Bartolomeo Bove were exploring the Formoso River when they had an incredible encounter. They came face to face with a massive green anaconda, nearly 7 meters long and weighing about 90 kilograms!
In the video below, you can see this giant reptile resting on the riverbed. As the camera gets closer, you’ll notice its eyes moving and its tongue flickering. Then, the anaconda gracefully swims away, and Bove follows to capture more footage.
Bove managed to record some stunning scenes of this fascinating creature. He points out that anacondas are often seen as aggressive, but that’s not true. The video shows the anaconda’s calm behavior, proving his point.
“The rivers around Bonito are the only places in South America where you can find anacondas in crystal-clear water,” Bove explains. “This makes it possible to spot them while diving.”
As you watch, you’ll see how the anaconda swims peacefully, completely ignoring the divers. At one point, it even comes close enough to lick the camera lens!
The green anaconda is the largest snake species in the world. They can grow over 9 meters long and weigh up to 250 kilograms. Contrary to what movies portray, these incredible snakes are truly amazing creatures.
Anacondas can move quickly and catch their prey by wrapping around it, restricting its breathing. They can even swallow animals larger than themselves thanks to their ability to unhinge their jaws.
