Life is full of disappointments, and we all know that. But should animals feel the same pain of being abandoned?
Vicente, a 3-month-old pup, was supposed to have his big day. He was all set to be taken home by his new family from the shelter. Dressed in a tiny tuxedo, he waited eagerly. But in a heartbreaking twist, the new owners never showed up.
Diana, a volunteer at the shelter, shared Vicente’s story. “We rescued Vicente, his siblings, and his mom from Zipaquirá, a town near Bogotá. Vicente is 3 months old, and the person who wanted to adopt him passed all our requirements. He even visited the shelter, met Vicente, and chose him from his brothers and sisters. The plan was for him to take Vicente home on the 9th. So we did what we usually do—gave him a bath and dressed him up for his special day. But the man never came. He stood Vicente up and then called to cancel the adoption.”
There was Vicente, in his tuxedo, ready to welcome a family that never arrived.
Luckily, the Rescátame Foundation continued to care for Vicente. After sharing his story, people from all over the world sent love and support, with many offering to adopt him.
The shelter wasn’t going to let Vicente be let down again. “This is why we’re strict with our adoption process,” they explained. “We want to ensure our furry friends go to the best homes, where they’ll be loved for life. Adopting a pet is a forever commitment.”
Many people wanted to give Vicente the home he deserved. And finally, he found a loving family.
The shelter shared the happy news: “Thanks to everyone who reached out! We never imagined Vicente’s story would touch so many hearts. We’re happy to say Vicente has been adopted by a wonderful family. But we still have over 40 animals at the foundation waiting for homes.”
Now, Vicente is cuddled up in his new home, loved and happy with his new family.
