A man should be someone who builds his country without tearing nature apart. Real progress uplifts both nature and people.
Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) recently shared a breakthrough. They captured incredible footage of animals using the Parley’s Canyon Wildlife Overpass. “It’s working!” they announced, thrilled to share the news.
Scott Root, the Conservation Outreach Manager at Utah DWR, explained why they’re recording animals on the overpass. They’re preparing for a statistical study on the project’s impact. “The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) recently set up a camera system on the overpass too. We’ll have detailed stats by next year. For now, deer are the main users,” Root shared.

Root also shared that Utah DWR and UDOT plan to create more projects like this, hoping to protect even more wildlife. “UDOT and DWR were amazed at how many animals used the overpass in its first two years. We added three miles of fencing along both sides of the bridge to guide animals safely.”
Before the bridge was built, about 100 wildlife-related accidents happened each year in this area. But with the overpass in place, those numbers have dropped significantly.
The bridge, completed two years ago, spans 320 feet long and 50 feet wide. Its design sparked online debates, but it’s proving to be a vital pathway.
Animals of all kinds, from squirrels to deer—even bears—are crossing safely on the overpass.
This project isn’t just effective; it’s a social media sensation. The video of animals using the bridge has racked up over 1.6 million views in under a week!
