Koda, Rachel Howatt’s husky, bolted into the woods one day and vanished. Rachel never expected it would be the day she’d lose her beloved dog.
A few days later, to Rachel’s relief, Koda came trotting back home. While she was thrilled, she wasn’t entirely surprised. “Koda is smart,” Rachel said. “I knew she could find her way back.”
But Rachel couldn’t help wondering—what had Koda been up to all that time? Curious, she reached out to a neighbor who had trail cameras set up in the woods. What they discovered was beyond anything Rachel had imagined.
Koda hadn’t been wandering alone. She’d found an unexpected friend—a deer! The trail cam footage showed the two spending time together, snuggling and even napping side by side.
Rachel was amazed by their unique bond. She estimates that Koda spent over 12 hours with her new companion. And it wasn’t just one deer—there were photos of Koda hanging out with two of them!
Despite Rachel’s efforts to keep Koda from roaming too far, she admits that her husky’s free spirit might lead her back to her deer friends. “Huskies have adventurous souls,” she said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Koda visits them again someday.”
