This Mom’s Halloween Decorations Got Complaints—Her Response Is Winning Hearts

Halloween is all about skeletons, spider webs, and spooky graveyards, right? But for one South Carolina mom, Halloween took an unexpectedly heartwarming twist. Salena Webb, a mother of four and Halloween enthusiast, turned her front yard into a hauntingly fun display. Think ghosts, tombstones, pumpkins, and even skeletons carrying a casket. It was the ultimate spooky setup.

But when a neighbor knocked on her door with a heartfelt request, Salena showed that the Halloween spirit isn’t just about scares—it’s about kindness too.

In a now-viral TikTok, Salena shares how her neighbor explained that his elderly father, who has lung cancer, found her decorations unsettling. The casket, in particular, hit a little too close to home. “My dad thinks the decorations are a bit scary,” her neighbor told her. He wasn’t asking for much—just for the casket to be removed.

Salena didn’t think twice. She knew her spooky display wasn’t worth causing anyone distress. “I didn’t want my decorations to be a reminder of what he might be facing,” she shared. So, down came the casket, and up went badminton rackets in the skeletons’ bony hands. The scarier items? They got relocated to the backyard.

“At first, I was a little disappointed,” Salena admitted in her TikTok caption. “But then I realized kindness costs nothing, and it could really make a difference for someone else.”

@thatsnorthsense My family knows i loveeee Halloween and my decorations took me awhile to make and put up. I had just purshased the skeleton carrying the casket to go along with my graveyard to really set my halloween decor off this year🥴 I was a little sad at first but i thought about the bigger picture. Me removing my casket isnt hurting me at all but it may ease and bring my neighbor a little bit of peace as he adjusts to this news. Kindness is free and compassion goes a long way. Her thoughtful gesture quickly went viral. Comments poured in, applauding her decision. “Now this is what being a good neighbor is all about,” one person wrote. Another said, “The world needs more people like you!”

Salena didn’t stop there. She brought her neighbor a card and balloons, bridging the language barrier between them with her actions. His gratitude was evident when he told her, “You’re good people.”
