When Ben and Eliza Curby discovered they were expecting, just three months into their relationship, they were both nervous and excited. They’d always dreamt of starting a family, and now that dream was finally coming true!
Their little girl, Charlie, was born healthy and full of life. But as the weeks passed, Eliza started to feel like something wasn’t quite right.
“I’ve always dreamed of being a mom,” Eliza shared. “Ben was thrilled too, but after Charlie was born, I kept thinking something was off.”
At first, Eliza thought she might be pregnant again. After all, she was tired all the time! But she figured it was just the aftermath of a crazy year—new relationship, new baby. Still, something nagged at her.
“I was so exhausted,” she recalled. “Everyone said it was sleep deprivation, but I knew it wasn’t. I looked at Ben and said, ‘I think I’m pregnant.’ He just laughed.”
Sure enough, Eliza took four home pregnancy tests—and they all confirmed it. She was pregnant again!
But the surprises didn’t stop there. When she went to the doctor, they found something even more shocking.
“The technician seemed really uncomfortable,” she said. “Then he said, ‘It’s early, but I think… there’s two.'”
Twins. She was having twins!
“I was scared, but secretly super excited. Who doesn’t secretly want identical twins?” Eliza laughed. “It was a total shock, but we were thrilled!”
Though twins usually run in families, identical twins are a rare surprise. Eliza and Ben were still processing the news when the twins arrived—perfectly healthy at 36 weeks. Jack Antony Richard and Wolfe George Harry were born, completing the couple’s growing family.
With their newborn twins, a baby girl, and a busy household, life was about to get a whole lot more chaotic. But Eliza and Ben couldn’t have been happier.
“It’s like having triplets,” Eliza said with a smile. “Diaper changes, pacifiers, breastfeeding—rinse and repeat all day long!”
Eliza now shares her chaotic yet love-filled journey on her blog, “Twingenuity,” where she offers a behind-the-scenes look at life in a home with three young children.
Ben and Eliza may not have been prepared for the challenges of raising three kids, but their hearts are full of joy. And we couldn’t be happier for them! What would you do if you found out you were expecting twins just six weeks after giving birth? Share your thoughts with us!
