A Ballerina in a Wheelchair? This Little Girl Will Melt Your Heart

Meet Milam Kiser, a little girl from Shelbiana, Kentucky, whose heart beats for ballet—despite the challenges her tiny body faces. At just three years old, Milam isn’t your average toddler. Born with a rare condition called osteogenesis imperfecta type III, her bones are extremely fragile, leaving her vulnerable to frequent fractures. In fact, Milam has already had around 60 fractures since birth. But that hasn’t stopped her from dreaming big.

Milam’s mom, Amanda, calls her a “diva.” “She loves to dance and absolutely adores music,” Amanda said. But when Milam expressed her wish to become a ballerina, Amanda was nervous. After all, Milam spends most of her time in a wheelchair, and any physical activity could be risky. Still, her mother couldn’t deny Milam’s passion.

“Milam asked me to go to ballet classes because she watches the other girls on YouTube doing it and wants to be like them,” Amanda explained. Despite her initial concerns, she decided to support her daughter’s dream. “She said she wanted to be a ballerina, so I called the instructors, explained about her being in a wheelchair, and they were all on board.”

On her first day of class, Milam was beyond excited. In the video Amanda filmed, you can see Milam bouncing on her bed, showing off her tutu, full of joy. But when the class began, Milam didn’t let her wheelchair hold her back. She pointed her toes, pirouetted, and followed along with the other girls, all while sitting in her chair.

“She really enjoyed herself,” Amanda shared. “Usually, Milam gets nervous around other kids at first, and there may be a few tears. But she really got stuck in.” Though Milam’s classmates were a bit older, she quickly found her rhythm. “She absolutely loved it.”

Since that first class, Milam has had a few falls, which made her a little nervous. “She was so happy when she finished the class, but she’s really nervous to go back now,” Amanda said. But this video is a beautiful reminder that it’s not about the falls—it’s about the joy, the determination, and the courage to keep trying.

Milam, sweetheart—don’t let a few stumbles stop you from dancing your heart out. Your dreams are already taking flight!
