A mother’s proud moment with her son turned into an internet firestorm—but she’s not backing down.
Amber Wright, a single mom from Utah, never expected a simple hug with her 16-year-old son, Brixton, to spark so much controversy. After his football team’s home game win, she shared a video of their emotional embrace on Instagram, thinking it was nothing more than a sweet celebration.
The internet, however, had other opinions.
The clip, now viewed over 9 million times, blew up for all the wrong reasons. Instead of cheering for a happy mom and her son, critics flooded the comments with accusations, claiming the hug was “inappropriate” and “crossed a line.”
One person wrote: “It would’ve been cute if it was his girlfriend, but not a mother.” Another questioned: “I wouldn’t let my son have a sleepover at their house.”
A third went even further, saying: “I hug my sons in public, but straddling them in high heels? That’s a no from me.”
As the backlash grew, some even accused Wright of grooming her own child, with threats to call Child Protective Services.
Wright, however, refuses to be bullied.
In a follow-up video, she addressed the hate directly: “It was literally a hug between my son and me. If you see something wrong with that, that’s on you.” She made it clear that she wouldn’t apologize or remove the clip, no matter how many people demanded it.
Brixton himself wasn’t about to stay silent either. He jumped into the comments to defend his mom, writing:
“How about you leave my mom alone? She’s never abused me, never done anything inappropriate. She’s my hero. That was just a HUG. Go bother someone else and maybe hug your own kids. You all need Jesus, damn.”
Despite the negativity, not everyone is against Wright. She’s received countless private messages of support, with many defending her against the online mob.

One user wrote: “I feel so bad for you and your son. Nobody deserves this level of public shaming.”
Another added: “People are too busy judging without understanding. You go, Mom!”
Love it or hate it, Wright isn’t backing down—and her son is standing right beside her.
