A mom-to-be has caused a stir online after asking her friends to help deep clean her house instead of hosting a traditional baby shower. And honestly, it’s a question we never thought to ask: Is this a genius move or totally out there?
While baby showers are often all about cute gifts and baby-themed games, not everyone is a fan. For some, sitting around watching a friend open tiny onesies just isn’t their thing. That’s where Nia’s story comes in.
She shared a TikTok video showing off her “nesting party,” which she had instead of a baby shower. The idea was simple but brilliant: get her closest friends together to help prepare her home for the new baby—by deep cleaning and stocking the freezer. No presents, no games, just practical help from the people she loves.

If you have a pregnant friend, do this for them! #nestingparty #nestingmom #nestingmode #pregnantmom #pregnancy #babyshower #nestingmama #thirdtrimester #ittakesavillage #myvillage @Bri Welcker ♬ original sound – Nia Lui
“My friend Bree organized it,” Nia explained in her video. “I sent her a list of things I wanted done, and she made little cards for each person to tackle a part of the house.” It turned into a cleaning bonanza, with her friends organizing the pantry, washing rugs, and sorting baby clothes. Meanwhile, Nia took a “supervisor” role, directing her team of helpers while they also took breaks to eat soup and chat about the baby’s arrival.
Not only did Nia’s house get a makeover, but her freezer was filled with meals, too. Guests were asked to bring freezer meals instead of gifts. This way, Nia wouldn’t have to worry about cooking during those exhausting early days with a newborn.
“The whole thing was so fun, and it made me feel so much more ready for baby,” she said, clearly thrilled with how everything turned out.

The internet is split, though. Some commenters absolutely loved the idea. “I’d rather do this than sit through baby shower games,” one person wrote. “Can I have this instead of a birthday party?” another joked. People even suggested that this should be a new tradition for all pregnant women!
But not everyone is on board. Some folks just prefer the classic baby shower vibes. “Nah, my husband can clean while me and my girls have drinks and celebrate,” one commenter said. Others just aren’t comfortable with the idea of cleaning in someone else’s home, even if it’s for a good cause.
