A Loving Husband Plants Thousands of Flowers for His Blind Wife

lowers can express so many emotions. A single rose says, “I love you,” while a bouquet might say, “I’m sorry I broke your favorite vase.” They are so versatile, but most of the time, flowers simply show love. We usually see them on anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, and birthdays. But one husband had a different idea after his wife lost her sight. Because flowers aren’t just beautiful, they smell amazing too.

Mr. and Mrs. Kuroki got married in 1956. They built a wonderful life together, raised two kids, and ran a dairy farm in Shintomi, Japan. Life was great, but then, everything changed. Their dream of traveling the country after retirement vanished when Mrs. Kuroki became blind due to complications from diabetes. They couldn’t travel anymore, and she fell into a deep depression.

Her husband couldn’t stand to see her so sad. He knew she loved the smell of her favorite flower, shibazakura (moss phlox). They already had a few in their garden, so he came up with a plan. He would keep planting more.

Over the next two years, he planted thousands of flowers, all to lift her spirits. The sweet scent of her favorite flowers brought her joy, but something else happened, too. Visitors started coming to see the beautiful garden, and this gave Mrs. Kuroki a chance to talk to people again. Now, more than ten years later, their dairy farm has become a major tourist attraction. When the flowers bloom, they get 7,000 visitors a day!
