Blind Elephant Finds Love and Acceptance in Sanctuary Herd

Nothing is more beautiful than finally receiving the love you deserve. But love isn’t just for people, is it? Animals need love too.

Take Ploy Thong, a blind elephant who spent years in a circus. Her life was anything but kind. She was rescued by the Save Elephant Foundation and brought to the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai.

At 30 years old, Ploy had endured a lifetime of hardship. She spent decades in Thailand’s Pattaya region, forced to carry tourists on her back. Day after day, she was saddled and worked until sunset.

But everything changed when she arrived at the sanctuary.

Since she couldn’t see, Ploy used low vibrations to signal her presence to the other elephants. And something incredible happened—they came to her. They surrounded her, showing her a compassion she had never known.

“Both eyes blind, she transported tourists every day,” the sanctuary staff shared. “Every day she was saddled early and carried riders until sunset. She used her trunk to sniff the way while tourists rode on her back. [But] her journey to freedom begins.”
