Imagine celebrating your birthday with your twin—except they were technically born in a different year!
That’s exactly what happened to Mykel and Aliyah Kiyomi Morris from Hamden, Connecticut, when they welcomed their twins just three minutes apart. But thanks to the timing, one baby arrived in 2023, and the other in 2024!
Their son, Seven Morris, made his grand entrance at 11:59 PM on December 31, 2023, just in time to be the last baby born that year at Yale New Haven Hospital. His little sister, Souli Morris, followed at 12:02 AM on January 1, 2024—making her the hospital’s first baby of the new year.

A hospital representative confirmed to WFSB-TV that since they only record births by the minute, Seven officially closed out the year, while Souli rang in the new one. Both babies arrived weighing 6 lbs 9 oz, and according to a press release, their mom is doing great and resting comfortably after her unforgettable New Year’s Eve.
A Rare Phenomenon—And It Happened Twice!
As rare as this is, the Morris twins weren’t the only ones to pull off this incredible timing. Over in New Jersey, another set of twins was born in two different years at Virtua Voorhees Hospital.
Parents Eve and Billy welcomed their first son, Ezra, at 11:48 PM on New Year’s Eve. Then, after a 40-minute gap, his younger twin brother, Ezekial, arrived at 12:28 AM on New Year’s Day.

Adding to the family’s birthday magic? Ezra now shares his New Year’s Eve birthday with his dad!
Virtua Health shared in a statement that the parents are thrilled their boys are happy, healthy, and now have an unforgettable birthday story to tell for years to come.

A New Year Baby Boom!
These weren’t the only babies ringing in the new year in style. Two hospitals in Boston also reported welcoming three baby girls right at the stroke of midnight, making it a very special start to 2024.
Congratulations to all the families who got the best New Year’s gift possible—a brand-new bundle of joy!
