It’s not every day you get the chance to save a life. And when you do, the feeling is indescribable.
Raden Soemawinata, only 20 years old, was at Brighton in Melbourne, preparing to scatter his grandmother’s ashes into the bay. It was a deeply personal moment.
But fate had something else in store for him that day. While saying goodbye to someone he loved, he would also save a life.
Bibi, a Maltese-Shih Tzu, was out for a walk with her owner, Sue Drummond. A strong gust of wind suddenly blew Bibi into the water. Panic set in as Sue feared the worst, thinking she might lose her beloved dog.

Without hesitation, Raden jumped into the water. In a flash, he was swimming towards Bibi. His quick action saved the little dog’s life, and Sue was overwhelmed. She hugged Raden tightly, still in shock from what had just happened.

Sue later admitted she felt helpless in that moment. She wasn’t sure if she could have reached the shore with Bibi on her own.

Thanks to Raden’s quick thinking, both Sue and Bibi are forever grateful for his heroic act.
