Would you risk your life to save an animal? It’s a tough question, and no one knows what they’d do until they’re in that moment. Some people, though, don’t hesitate—they act. These are the true heroes.
One freezing day in Buffalo, New York, Don Chattern was out walking his two dogs when a woman approached him. She was desperate, asking for help finding her small, lost dog. Without a second thought, Don agreed to help.
After a bit of searching, they found the missing pup—but it was in serious trouble. The little dog had fallen into the icy waters of Ellicott Creek Park. Time was running out, and Don knew he had to act fast.
Although Don called 911, he feared help might come too late. So, he decided to try rescuing the dog himself. Carefully, he crawled across the thin ice, but it cracked, plunging him waist-deep into the freezing water.
In an interview with WKBW News, Don shared, “I knew it wasn’t too deep here because I used to come here as a kid.” Braving the icy water, Don finally reached the terrified pup, scooping it up to safety. Afterward, they rushed the dog to the vet to be checked over.
Thanks to Don’s courage, the little dog made it out safely.
