Elephants are now classified as endangered. Their numbers are shrinking fast, mostly due to poaching.
In Thailand, only around 2,000 wild elephants remain, and this story is about one of them.
In Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, a baby wild elephant was caught trying to hide—behind a skinny post!
This adorable little one had been munching on sugarcane in a farmer’s field when a few people spotted him. Realizing he’d been seen, the baby elephant froze and tried to “hide” behind the narrow post, making everyone burst out laughing.
The cutie’s hilarious attempt at hiding has since gone viral.
Maybe he just wanted a sweet treat! Who can blame him? But when he realized he was spotted, he probably thought the post would shield him. Even as people shined a light on him, he stayed perfectly still, thinking he was hidden.
The original post was shared on Facebook on the 16th with a Thai caption that translates to “Stay calm. Officers will see. Let’s keep eating sugarcane.”
The photo has since blown up on social media, with over 1,000 shares and 3,000 likes!
People online couldn’t help but share their thoughts about the little sugar-loving elephant.
