Brint Davy, a 41-year-old from Austin, Texas, has the internet shaking its head after revealing he’s been jobless for years—yet refuses to take work he deems “beneath” him. The kicker? His parents have been footing his $1,500 rent for the past seven years.
Davy’s story went viral after he appeared on Caleb Hammer’s Financial Audit podcast on YouTube in April, where he opened up about his financial struggles. Despite being thousands of dollars in debt, he still manages to afford takeout, gambling, and subscriptions to Netflix, Amazon Prime, and even OnlyFans. The episode has racked up over 1.4 million views, and let’s just say—people had a LOT to say.
A Criminal Past and a Bizarre Excuse
When Hammer asked what Davy does for a living, his response was… unique.
“Too many things. I don’t even know really,” Davy admitted. “I’m just hustling every day because I’ve been blacklisted from most jobs.”
The reason? Back in 2018, he tweeted at Texas Governor Greg Abbott, threatening to “eat his heart.” Six agents arrested him, and he spent four days in jail on a terror hold.
“It sounds way worse than it was,” he explained. “I’m not a cannibal—I don’t eat hearts.”
While the case was eventually dropped, Davy claims the ordeal has made it nearly impossible for him to find stable work. Now, he relies on gig jobs and—more importantly—his parents’ generosity.
Too Good for a “Step Down” Job?
Hammer didn’t hold back when questioning why Davy, at 41, still depends on his aging parents.

“Aren’t you embarrassed?” the host asked.
Davy hesitated. “A little, but I know they’re capable of it.”
The conversation escalated when Davy admitted he turned down a fast-food job because he was waiting for “something better.” Hammer wasn’t having it.
“You’re being a baby,” he fired back. “Why won’t you take a job that you think is slightly beneath you?”
Davy stood firm, saying he’s confident a better opportunity will come along. That response only fueled the internet’s frustration.
Internet Reacts: “Secondhand Embarrassment Is MONUMENTAL”
Viewers didn’t hold back their opinions.
- “The secondhand embarrassment I have for this man is MONUMENTAL.”
- “The overwhelming guilt I would feel if my elderly parents were paying my rent while I sat around unemployed would crush me.”
- “This man is WILD. ‘I’m not a baby!’ Bro, your parents pay your rent while you sip a Monster energy drink and eat gas station food.”
- “The amount of ego it takes to say you’re ‘overqualified’ for a job while unemployed is actually impressive.”
A Reality Check—Will He Change?
As the podcast wrapped up, Hammer offered some blunt advice.

“I hope you make sacrifices—like taking a job ‘beneath’ you—so you can get out of this mess,” he said. “I’m nervous for you. Just go work a job that doesn’t ‘value’ you for a bit while you look for that career position.”
Will Davy take the advice? Based on his track record… don’t hold your breath.
