A viral video of a restaurant manager refusing to let diners leave without tipping has sparked a heated debate online. While some people applaud his dedication to his staff, others think he took it way too far.
Tipping culture has been a hot topic for a while now, especially in the United States. Many feel like it’s gotten out of hand, and the expectation to tip up to 20% is putting extra pressure on customers. But for service workers, tips make up a huge part of their income, and anything below 20% is often seen as stingy.

In the now-viral clip, a manager confronts a group of men at a restaurant who spent hours drinking beer and playing pool without leaving a tip. The video, originally posted on TikTok by @gladys_nicole, shows the manager pointing across the room and reminding the men of the waitress who served them.
He firmly says, “Don’t forget her, you gotta give her a little bit. Comprende?” One of the guys gestures to confirm which waitress they should tip, and the manager responds, “Si, for her. But that right now is zero.” He even holds up a zero sign to make his point.

The manager continues to urge them to tip, emphasizing how long they occupied the pool table and were served drinks. Gladys, the person recording the video, follows the men as they leave the establishment. She captions the video with: “He caught them before they left. They had the pool table with drinks for HOURS and did not tip the waitress. Bad [peach emoji] manager.”
The clip quickly racked up over 1.6 million views, and the comments section exploded with mixed reactions. While some viewers praised the manager for standing up for his employee, others were downright furious.

“That would just make sure I’m not tipping,” one user said. Another shared, “I worked in restaurants for ten years. Tipping has gotten out of hand.”
Some critics believe the manager’s attitude was a result of low wages and pointed out that employees shouldn’t have to rely on tips to make a living. One user wrote, “We do not and will not give them a raise, so that’s where customers come in. I need you to do your part now.”
On the flip side, many were impressed by the manager’s dedication. One person called him “the type of manager you wanna work for.” Another added, “IF YOU DON’T GOT MONEY TO TIP, TAKE YOUR BROKE A** HOME.”
The video has left people wondering: Was the manager right to confront the customers, or did he cross a line? Let us know your thoughts – would you have tipped after being called out like that?
