She Married Her Childhood Sweetheart, but Only Realized It Years Later

Some love stories feel like they’re straight out of a movie. Ed and Heidi Savitt’s journey is one of those rare tales—full of unexpected twists, a touch of mystery, and a jaw-dropping discovery.

It all started in 2011 when Ed and Heidi were students at Newcastle University in the UK. Ed had just moved into a house where Heidi once lived. One day, struggling with the dryer, he reached out to Heidi for help. That small, seemingly mundane moment was the spark that ignited a love story. They quickly became inseparable, and in 2017, they tied the knot, ready to spend forever together.

But as it turned out, their story didn’t begin at university. It began decades earlier, though neither of them had any idea.

When Heidi introduced Ed to her family, her mom, Kay Parker, couldn’t shake a strange sense of familiarity about him. There was something about Ed that tugged at her memory, but she couldn’t quite place it. Then, during a dinner party with both families, the mystery began to unravel.

Kay mentioned a family trip to Turkey when Heidi was just six years old. On that vacation, young Heidi had an adorable “boyfriend” named Ed. The two children spent the entire trip holding hands and playing together.

Everyone laughed at the sweet coincidence, but Kay couldn’t let it go. Back home, she scoured the attic for photos from that trip. What she found left her in shock.

In one picture, six-year-old Heidi stood holding hands with a little boy who looked startlingly familiar. That boy was Ed Savitt.

When Kay showed the photo to Heidi, it triggered a flood of memories. Heidi remembered her childhood “boyfriend” and couldn’t believe the twist her love story had taken. “I was screaming,” she later said. “It was just unreal.”

Kay shared the discovery with Ed’s mom, Fiona, who was just as stunned. “Oh my goodness, that’s Ed!” Fiona exclaimed.

For Heidi, who had never been a believer in fate, this revelation was life-changing. She now firmly believes that destiny played a role in bringing her and Ed together—twice.

Kay thinks that when Ed and Heidi met at university, some deep part of them must have recognized the bond they had shared as children. And Heidi agrees. From the moment she met Ed, she felt like he was “the one.”
