When Supatra was born on August 5, 1999, her parents were overjoyed. But their delight quickly turned to shock when doctors revealed she had an unusually hairy body. At first, her family thought it was just a quirk. But as they peered into the incubator, they realized their newborn was unlike any other.
Doctors diagnosed her with Ambras syndrome, a condition so rare that fewer than 50 cases have been documented in history. This rare genetic condition caused excessive hair growth all over her body—except for her palms, soles, and the inside of her mouth. Her parents’ love, however, remained unwavering. When doctors hesitated to discharge her mom, fearing she might abandon her baby, her mother reassured them: “We are lucky she was born into our family.”
A Childhood of Challenges and Courage
Growing up, Supatra was wrapped in her family’s love—but not everyone was as kind. Strangers stared. School bullies hurled cruel names like “wolf girl” and “monkey face.” Traditional treatments, like laser therapy, failed to stop her hair from growing.
Yet, Supatra didn’t see herself as different. “It’s the way I am,” she said. Her teacher, Kuljira Posaeng, recalled how she was initially intimidating to her peers. But Supatra’s vibrant personality quickly won them over, making her one of the most popular kids in class. She sang, danced, acted, and excelled in her studies—all while staying resilient in the face of constant teasing.
Love Found in the Unlikeliest of Places
As Supatra entered her teenage years, she began shaving her facial hair but left the rest untouched. Over time, her confidence grew. To her surprise, so did her heart. What started as a friendship blossomed into a love story.
“It began from friendship, then we became a couple,” she shared. Their conversations brought her joy, and their bond felt natural. Supatra found a love she had never dared to dream of: “It was a kind of love that I didn’t expect would happen to me.” Eventually, they married, and Supatra affectionately called her husband “the love of my life.”
A Bold Transformation
Supatra later stunned the world by posting pictures of herself without facial hair. People speculated about a cure, but her father clarified that she had simply decided to shave, revealing her radiant new look. Only the hair on her head remains untouched now.
Today, Supatra radiates confidence, positivity, and joy. She is living proof that beauty comes in many forms. Her message to the world? “Everyone is beautiful and unique in their own way.” Supatra is dedicated to inspiring others to embrace their individuality and let their inner light shine.
