Born with a rare condition called bilateral macrostomia, Ayla’s smile is the result of a facial cleft where the corners of her mouth didn’t fuse properly during pregnancy. With only 14 documented cases in medical history, her condition is as unique as it is rare.
The news came as a shock to Cristina and Blaize, who had no indication from ultrasounds that anything was amiss. “We had never heard of this condition before,” Cristina shared. “It was a huge shock, and at first, I kept wondering what I did wrong.”
