This Selfie With His ‘Isolation Buddy’ Has Made Steve Irwin’s Son a Viral Hit

Some people can’t stand Covid-19, while others try to make the best of it. Yes, staying inside all day is boring. But here’s the silver lining – it’s a chance to focus on yourself. Now, you can finally finish what you started. Trust me, staying at home isn’t as bad as it seems.

Most of us turn to social media to keep busy, filling time with challenges and games. One viral challenge on WhatsApp is uploading a selfie with your “Isolation Buddy.”

Celebrities are stuck at home too! Recently, Robert Irwin – son of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin – posted a selfie with his own Isolation Buddy, and it went viral.

Who did he pick as his buddy? You might guess a friend or family member. But 16-year-old Robert’s quarantine pal is a tortoise named Igloo – and it’s exactly the wholesome content we need right now.

Robert’s selfie with Igloo, captioned “My self-isolation buddy,” has racked up over 800,000 likes. According to the Australia Zoo’s website (run by the Irwin family), Igloo is an Aldabra tortoise. And as the Smithsonian’s National Zoo notes, this species was among the first to receive special protection to ensure its survival.

The photo was snapped just days after Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, issued stay-at-home orders.

Australia has over 4,800 Covid-19 cases and 20 deaths so far, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

The virus has forced some big changes, too. Bindi Irwin, Robert’s sister, recently revealed she had to cancel her wedding guests due to the pandemic.

In an Instagram post, Bindi shared, “I planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything – we didn’t have guests at our wedding. This was a hard decision, but it was important to keep everyone safe.”

Bindi added, “We wish all our friends and family could have been there with us, but we’re grateful to be able to share photos and videos.”
