The heartbreaking mystery of Leticia Martinez-Cosman has taken a devastating turn as authorities reveal the cause of her death.
The 58-year-old was last seen on March 31 (2023), enjoying a Mariners game at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park with her date, Brett Gitchel. That night, she sent her family a cheerful selfie of the pair smiling in the stadium. But when she stopped responding, concern quickly turned into dread.

Less than two weeks later, on April 11, her family’s worst fears were confirmed. Leticia’s remains were discovered in a wooded area in Renton, Washington, just miles from her home.
Gitchel, 46, was arrested on April 5, just days after her disappearance. He now faces a list of disturbing charges: murder, kidnapping, arson, and even an attempt to kill Leticia’s adult son, Patrick, who has special needs. He’s being held on $5 million bail.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Leticia died from asphyxia due to strangulation. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
The tragedy deepens with chilling details about Patrick’s ordeal. According to court documents, Gitchel allegedly tried to strangle Patrick to unconsciousness after kidnapping him. Miraculously, Patrick managed to escape. Just hours later, Leticia’s car was found burned, with accelerants used to ignite the fire.
The family is now grappling with overwhelming grief and an uncertain future. Leticia’s brother, Ricardo Martinez, told reporters, “I just want justice for my sister and nephew.”

In the midst of their pain, the family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to ensure Patrick receives the care he needs. Leticia was his full-time caregiver, and her loss has left him in a precarious situation.
“Patrick’s life has been turned upside down,” Leticia’s sister wrote on the campaign page. “He faces significant physical and emotional challenges in the days ahead, and we can’t do this alone.”
So far, the campaign has raised $33,975 of its $50,000 goal, with donations pouring in from people moved by the family’s story.
“We’re overwhelmed by the support,” the family shared in an update. “Your kindness is helping us navigate this unimaginable loss. We’ll make sure Patrick feels your love and encouragement.”
