A man who says he temporarily “died” is sharing his extraordinary story of what he believes awaits us all in the afterlife. Spoiler alert: It’s not quite what you’d expect.
David Hanzel, a 57-year-old from North Carolina, opened up about his near-death experience, which occurred in 2015 while he was hospitalized for a severe lung infection and sepsis. His condition was dire—70% of his lung was infected, and the sepsis had spread throughout his body. During surgery, David says he “flatlined” and fell into a coma for two months.

“I didn’t even know I was dead,” David recalled. “I had no concept of it at all.”
But what happened next changed his life forever. David, who describes himself as “extremely psychic,” said he experienced a “beautiful afterlife.”
“I remember closing my eyes because I felt so sick,” he said. “When I opened them, I was in this gorgeous night sky. It was velvety, silky, with no stars or clouds—just infinite beauty.”
In this surreal realm, David says he was guided by two beings who felt both familiar and comforting. They led him toward a stunning golden-white light, surrounded by angels ascending into it.
And then, the unexpected twist: he found himself in what appeared to be a bar.
“There were beautiful colored bottles lining the sides—no alcohol, just this calming atmosphere,” he explained. “The beings told me that the afterlife initially appears in a way that aligns with what you believe or feel most comfortable with.”
From the bar, David was guided to a magnificent white marble building with intricate veins that seemed otherworldly.
“When you walked, it felt like floating—there was no gravity. It was surreal and peaceful,” he said.
When David woke from his coma, he said he was physically healed and had a profound epiphany.

“I came back with total forgiveness for everyone who had ever wronged me,” he said. “It took dying to understand life, religion, and the importance of letting go.”
Today, David uses his social media platforms, especially TikTok, to share what he learned and to answer questions about spirituality and life after death.
Through his website, he offers insights and messages from loved ones who have passed, aiming to help others find comfort and clarity in their spiritual journeys.
David’s story isn’t just about life after death—it’s about the lessons we can bring back with us. So, what do you think? Would the afterlife you imagine be anything like David’s?
