Why This Woman Pretends to Be a Man to Deliver Food at Night

It’s a tough world out there, especially for women who work night shifts. One female DoorDash driver has taken an extraordinary step to protect herself—and her story has captured the internet’s attention.

Meet Tia, also known as @tiazakher on TikTok. In a now-viral video with over 260,000 views, Tia shared her unique way of staying safe while delivering orders after dark. Her solution? Dressing as a man.

The 11-second clip shows Tia sporting straight-leg joggers, an oversized jacket, a cap, and a hood, all topped off with a mask covering the lower half of her face. She captioned the video, “POV: [You’re] scared to deliver orders at night alone but you make more money at night so you dress up as a man.”

The video sparked a flood of reactions in the comments, with many users—especially men—offering respect and encouragement. “Respect the hustle, king,” wrote one, while another joked, “Good job, bro.” A third user even called her disguise “very convincing.”

Women in the comments, however, shared a deeper sense of empathy. “Girl, anything but stay safe,” one wrote. Another chimed in, “Me walking to get groceries at night,” relating to Tia’s fear. Some even confessed to tipping extra when they see female delivery drivers, knowing the risks they face.

This isn’t the first time women have gone viral for taking safety precautions in their everyday lives. Just last month, TikTok saw another trend where women carried extra layers of clothing, dubbed “subway shirts,” to avoid unwanted attention on public transport.

User @ideal.grace demonstrated this with a clip showing her throwing on an oversized shirt over her summer outfit before boarding the subway. Her advice? “Stay safe out there.” Another TikToker, @rae.hersey, posted a similar video, peeling off her “subway shirt” to reveal her true outfit once she reached her destination.

The comments on these videos paint a picture of shared experiences and mutual support. “It’s sad we even have to think about this,” wrote one user.

For many women, these precautions are necessary realities in a world where safety isn’t guaranteed. Whether it’s a “subway shirt” or a makeshift disguise, these stories are a sobering reminder of the lengths women go to feel secure.

So here’s to Tia and countless others navigating these challenges. Stay safe out there, ladies—and let’s hope for a world where no one has to hide just to feel protected. Share this story with your friends to spread awareness and spark conversations!
