Why Work? This Guy Plans to Stay With His Mom Until He’s 50

We all dream about quitting our jobs and never working again. But while most of us sigh and go back to work, one guy has actually found a way to make it happen—without winning the lottery or inheriting a fortune.

His plan? Simple. He’s going to live with his mom until he’s 50.

Anthony Voulgaris, a university student from Melbourne, Australia, has officially decided that full-time work just isn’t for him. And he’s not afraid to say it.

“I’d just like to formally announce that I don’t think full-time work is for me,” Anthony shared in a TikTok video. “Yeah, personally, not for me.”

He didn’t list many reasons—just that it doesn’t align with his “belief system.” And since no one can force him to believe in work, well… he’s opting out.

Surprisingly (or maybe not), many people in the comments agreed.

“I don’t think WORK is for me, period,” one person wrote. Another chimed in: “Finally, someone with the same beliefs as me!”

Others were more skeptical, asking: “No, but seriously, how do you pay for things?”

Anthony has an answer for that, too. Earlier this year, he declared that he plans to keep his cost of living at exactly zero—by staying with his parents for as long as possible.

“I’m staying here as long as I can,” he said. “I get free food, my washing is done for me—that’s lucky, a lot of people don’t get that. I’m not moving out ever. If I can stay here until I’m 50, I will.”

His parents’ thoughts on this groundbreaking plan? Unclear.

While most people don’t plan to still be living with their parents at 50, Anthony isn’t alone in his approach. With the rising cost of living, skyrocketing rents, and unaffordable home prices, more and more adults are staying with their parents well into their 30s—and sometimes beyond.
