Her Safe Space: The Story Behind a Woman Who Sleeps in a Dog Kennel
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve heard about someone’s bedtime routine? For Lia Parker, a 21-year-old TikToker, it involves curling up inside a dog kennel every night. While her choice has sparked curiosity—and controversy—online, Lia says it’s much deeper than people realize.
To her, the kennel isn’t just a cage. It’s a sanctuary. Filled with blankets, stuffed animals, and a lifetime of emotions, it’s where she finds peace. “It feels like a hug and like a hideaway,” Lia shared in an interview with NeedToKnow.co.uk. “It helps me regulate emotionally and symptomatically. It’s separate from anything that triggers or upsets me.”

But not everyone understands. Lia, who posts under the name Angel Fairer, often sees heated debates in her TikTok comments. Some viewers offer support, while others jump to uncomfortable conclusions.
In one of her videos, Lia gives a room tour, showing off her cozy setup of teddy bears and the now-famous kennel. Text across the screen reads: “You have every right to give yourself the childhood that was stolen.” At the bottom, a clear disclaimer: “Do not sexualize this video.”
Sadly, not everyone listens. Lia admits the inappropriate comments frustrate her. “When people say the cage must be sexual, it makes me uncomfortable,” she said. “It feels like they’re intentionally fetishizing something I’ve made clear is tied to trauma.”
For Lia, the kennel represents healing. “I knew people wouldn’t understand or think it was weird,” she said. “But if it can help others struggling, it’s worth it.”
And it has helped others. Many followers share similar experiences, finding solace in small, quiet spaces. “I want a cage so bad,” one commenter wrote. “I want to feel small and safe and protected.” Another recalled seeking comfort under their bed as a child.
Despite the backlash, Lia stays focused on her journey and encourages others to embrace what works for them. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about what others think—it’s about finding your peace, even if it looks a little different.
