Would You Be Okay With This Kid’s Flashing Hat on a Night Flight?

A flight attendant has finally weighed in after a viral video showed a young passenger turning a night flight into an unexpected light show—courtesy of a flashing, glow-in-the-dark hat.

TikTok user @malecastellonn shared the now-viral clip, which quickly racked up over 8 million views. In the video, passengers are trying to catch some much-needed shut-eye when the camera suddenly reveals the unexpected culprit: a kid, happily wearing a hat that lights up like a mini rave.

I won’t lie—the scene looks like something straight out of a sitcom, and I may or may not have laughed out loud. But while some found the moment hilarious, others were far less amused.

The comments section exploded with reactions, ranging from sympathy for the exhausted travelers to outright frustration.

“Imagine trying to sleep, and suddenly, the whole plane turns into a nightclub,” one person wrote.

“I would lose my mind,” another added.

A third chimed in with: “This is so disrespectful of the parents to allow this.”

Some even pointed out the possible health risks, mentioning that the flashing lights could trigger migraines or even seizures for some passengers.

Eventually, a flight attendant stepped in to offer a professional opinion. Speaking to Indy100, they made it clear: the hat had no business being on a flight.

“As a flight attendant, I’d say put that away. There are people trying to rest, read, or watch a movie. Also, some passengers have disabilities, and this can be incredibly irritating for them. Leave stuff like this at home or amusement parks—not in a tiny tin can at 30,000 feet. Some folks have sensitive eyes. Please consider others around you.”

So, what is considered good airplane etiquette? The Daily Mail spoke to travel experts to clear things up.

Travel blogger Lee Abbamonte advises passengers to avoid sprawling out on empty seats until it’s clear no one else will be using them—and even then, it’s best to ask a flight attendant first.

Former flight attendant Abbie Unger also dropped some key etiquette tips:

  • Keep your feet off the seats (seriously, no one wants to deal with that).
  • Lower the brightness on your devices if others are trying to sleep.
  • Use padded headphones instead of loud earbuds.
  • And please, dress appropriately—outside clothes, not pajamas. Slippers? Fine. Bare feet? Absolutely not.

Surprisingly, there are no official rules about flashing hats on planes. But judging by the internet’s reaction, we can probably all agree: this kid’s glowing headgear was a definite no-go.
