A TikToker’s kitchen horror story has gone viral, leaving viewers horrified—and rethinking their cleaning habits.
Niki Detrich, known as @nikidetrich on TikTok, shared a chilling PSA after discovering something truly stomach-turning in her blender. Her video, which now has over 1.8 million views, begins with a warning: “If you don’t fully clean your blender blades every time, you need to hear this.”

The nightmare started innocently enough. Niki explained she usually rinses her blender with hot water after each use, but only washes it with soap after every three uses. “I thought hot water was enough to clean all the crud,” she admitted. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.
Then came the horrifying moment. While cleaning her blender, Niki spotted something squirming—maggots. Yes, maggots. “I think it’s fruit fly larvae that laid eggs there,” she speculated, showing clear footage of the writhing bugs on her blender blades. Her reaction? A scream that pretty much echoed what everyone watching was thinking.
Comments poured in from equally traumatized viewers:
- “This is so much worse than I imagined.”
- “I thought it would just be mold. Nope. WAY worse.”
- “Who doesn’t wash their blender blades?!”
Some asked the obvious: “Did you throw it out?” In a follow-up, Niki explained why she hadn’t. Her blender, similar to a Nutribullet, has a non-detachable blade base that can’t go in the dishwasher. The company later sent her a replacement blade and recommended cleaning it with soap, water, and vinegar monthly.

Since the discovery, Niki hasn’t touched the blender—and admits she’s been checking her house obsessively for more maggots.
Her viral PSA has one takeaway for all of us: wash your blender blades thoroughly after every use. Because, as Niki learned the hard way, skipping soap might lead to an uninvited party of creepy crawlies.
